Membership
The Nigerian Institute of Physics (NIP) membership is open to individuals actively involved in the field deemed relevant to physics by the Council.
Membership categories include Fellows, Ordinary Members, Associate Members, Student Members, Honorary Fellows, and Corporate Members.
Membership categories will be identified with the following approved acronyms:
- Fellow: FNIP
- Ordinary Member: MNIP
- Associate Member: AMNIP
- Honorary Member: Hon. FNIP
Members have the right to use the relevant acronym after their names, as recognized by the Constitution.
Certificates of membership, signed by the President and Secretary, will be issued to all member categories except student members.
Certificates of membership will remain the property of the Nigerian Institute of Physics.
Fellowship at the Nigerian Institute of Physics (FNIP) will be granted to Ordinary Members who have made significant contributions to NIP and Physics advancement over a minimum of 10 years, as approved by the Council.
An Ordinary Member (MNIP) must be actively involved in the practice or teaching of Physics or related scientific fields for at least three years and hold qualifications accepted by the Council.
Candidates for Associate Member (AMNIP) must possess qualifications accepted by the Council and may transfer from student membership after meeting criteria.
Student membership is available to postgraduate or undergraduate students in approved Physics or related fields and expires upon completion of studies in the calendar year.
Honorary Fellowship (Hon. FNIP) is awarded to individuals recognized by the Council for exceptional contributions to Physics and Science.
Corporate membership is offered to Corporations, Companies, and higher learning institutions contributing to Physics and Science advancement, as determined by the Council.
Honorary Fellows, Student, and Corporate members enjoy privileges but cannot hold office, vote, stand for election, or serve on the Council.
Each member will be assigned a unique registration number.
Members in good standing receive a complimentary copy of each Institution newsletter and can purchase the Nigerian Journal of Physics at a subsidized rate.
